After I heard an extensive amount of questions about what is happening with peoples trees I have made available an area that you can ask me a question about your tree.  If you do not know which tree you have you can describe the tree; I will also require a dscription of the problems you are seeing.  If given permission I will post your question on this thread for everyone to see and learn more about their trees

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How much will this cost me?

Answer:  While it would be great to give everyone a simple answer it is a bit more complicated than this.  All trees are different sizes and the kinds of diseases are also different.  We first measure the diameter of the tree to figure out how much of a chemical needs to be injected and how many injection sites there will be.  We figure out how much chemical will be needed per DBH (diameter at breast height) and calculate a price for each individual tree.

2. How often will I need to have the treatments done?

Answer:  This varies on the disease and the trees within the homeowners property.  Some insects like emerald ash borer are usually treated for a total of 8-10 years.  Some problems many only need to be treated one time and others may need to be treated for the life of the tree.  We have chemicals that last 1-3 years depending on the active ingredient.

3.  How did the disease get to my tree?

Answer:  Most insects that feed on trees will target stressed trees before healthy ones.  This is due to the fact that stressed trees release scents that attract those insects.  Some insects have no preference on the health of the tree.  Fungi can be spread by root grafting, which is when roots touch.  This is very common with Dutch elm disease and oak wilt.  Insects also can be vectors and carry diseases from one tree to another.  This can be seen in ash trees as leaf hoppers can carry the bacteria ash yellows from tree to tree.  Other forms of spread include water runoff, spore spread, and spread by leaf.

4.  Do you trim or remove trees?

Answer:  Arbor Doctor does not remove or trim trees.  We work with many professionals in the area to help with our customers that have needs outside of our company's services.  Our referral page is a great source for people that need one of these services.

5. Could I do the treatments myself?

Answer:  In some cases I would recommend that the homeowner do their own treatments, because they will be able to monitor the progress better than we can.  For example: it is better for a homeowner to spray for apple maggots than a professional service.  They can trap the adults that lay the eggs on the trees and time their sprays to keep the insects controlled.  Other problems will require a commercial pesticide applicator.
